PURPOSE IN LIFE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN KURNOOL DISTRICT - AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

Abstract

An individual cannot just spend his whole life without any purpose as Frankl, V. E (1963) theory explains that meaningfulness / purpose in life is an individual’s belief that his or her life is significant. He also posted that the search for meaning, or ‘will to meaning’, is the primary motivating force in the lives of all individuals. Where as in terms of teacher this implies too as an individual and as child caretaker / parent substitute must know his life’s purpose. The study was done to find out the Purpose in Life of primary school teachers of Kurnool District with respect to variables gender, marital status, experience, medium of instruction, type of school management and location. Primary education helps in development of child’s emotional, social and all-round growth. Children at this stage can learn best if we can provide the best teachers to them. The teacher’s life purpose, positive attitude, behaviors, well being, self esteem, self management, and work-orientation enriches the children to have the best future. Whether primary school teachers purpose for their life exercise themselves to get required benefits or not to they feel that some known/unknown factors are responsible for the hipping in life? What are the expectancies? How do their purpose in life influence their teaching professionalism which is relatively connected to primary school children’s education and their future. To test this, the study was conducted on 400 primary school teachers from rural and urban areas of Kurnool district sample drawn randomly in selection of primary school teachers from Government, private and also different types of Management. Purpose in Life Scale was administered for this study. The self-reported responses of the subjects were recorded, scored and subjected to respective statistical analysis’ It was found that purpose in life of primary school teachers significantly differed with respect to some variable.
