Abstract

The art of storytelling is intrinsic in the human nature. From cave paintings of Ajanta and Ellora to the golden carvings of Pyramids of Egypt and then the oral tradition of Vedas, our ancestors made sure that we hear about the cosmos and learn from it. Indian art of storytelling, as in many other cultures as we see it, is inseparable from the society, even the most neglected, illiterate part of it. In the multicultural and multi-layered context of Indian society and life, folktales are our shared cultural heritage. With their impersonal expression, they work as bridges between the members of a community.
