Sarbani Mukhopadhyay’s novel Basantabela is a sensitive portrayal of women’s psychology and social consciousness within a patriarchal framework. Though small in size, the novel powerfully exposes the deep-rooted social prejudices against women, especially those considered physically unattractive or socially “inauspicious.”
