The Bhagwata Gita is a dharmic scripture, a part of the ancient Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. The Gita upholds the essence and the philosophical tradition of the Upanisadas. Many commentators of the Gita see the setting of the Gita in a battlefield as an allegory for the ethical; and moral struggle of the human life. The Bhagwata Gita's call for selfless action inspired many famous people including Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi referred to the Gita as his 'Spiritual dictionary'. Swami Vivekananda also emphasized that the first discourse in the Gita related to the war could be taken allegorically. Vivekananda remarked this Kuruksetra War is only an allegory. When we sum up its esoteric significance it means the war which is constantly going on within man between the tendencies of good and evil.
