Abstract

Toru Dutt, a Christian and daughter of the liberal Govin Chunder Dutt, a member of Famous Dutt family of Bengal, is considered by many to be the first genuine Indian English Poet. If she had lived longer, it is said with certainty that her works would have stood alongside the best poets in India and the world .
