Abstract

Marxism is a conceptual tool which helps to understand environmentalism in relation to the groups and the society. According to Marxists, these groups and the society maintain themselves in existence through the material processes of production and distribution of food, goods and services. This productive activity is performed, while interfering with nature, i.e., by taking the products of nature and converting them in to socially useful things and this in turn helped obtain a means of subsistence. The environment was primarily seen by Marxists as a medium of human labour.
