REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH BEHAVIOUR AMONG PANDO TRIBAL WOMEN: SARJUGA (CHHATTISGARH)

Abstract: The present cross-sectional study was conducted to understand the pregnancy related reproductive health behaviour of Pando tribal women of Sarguja district of Chhattisgarh. 218 ever married women were selected from Pandonagar and Losngi villages of Sarguja district, interview-cum schedule, genealogy method, case study method were used to collect information about socio-economic, demographic and reproductive health behaviour for present study. Results of the present study are also comparing with NFHS-II, NFHS-III and other tribal community. Result revealed that mean age at menarche was 12.8 years; mean age at marriage was 15.1years. 54.8% women attained their first pregnancy at the age of 17 years and below 17 years. Use of T.T. Vaccine is 52% and IFA tablets are 5.7% which is very low. Institutional delivery was found only 1.9%. Female sterilization is popular method for family planning (16.0%). The case of abortion and still birth were found higher in those women who’s age at marriage were 12 to15 years. The infant mortality rate is 28 it is lower than NFHS-II of C.G. which is 81. 40% women were found malnourished (BMI<18.5 kg/m2) and 46.3% moderate anaemic (7.0-9.9). These are due to high illiteracy, lack of awareness and poor socio- economic condition.
